Sarsfields Under 10 team travelled to St. Marys Clonmel on Saturday for the Annual Frank Maher U10 tournament. This is a tournament that Sars have for many years been invited to and continue the sporting relationship with St. Marys. On this occasion there were 16 teams competing from all over the country.
Sarsfields 1 in their first two matches beat Tipperary teams Fethard and Fr. Sheehys and in their final group game they beat a strong O Loughlins Gaels (Kilkenny) team to qualify for the A Semi final.
Sarsfields 2 were up against first teams from other clubs. In their first group game they beat Bredagh, Co. Down and they also won against Grangemockler (Tipperary). They lost their final group game to St Mary's Clonmel but qualified for the B semi final. In their Semi final the lads gave our local rivals Erins Own a great game but just came up short.
Sarsfields 1 in their A semi final beat Clarinbridge (Galway) to progress to play Sixmilebridge (Clare). The final was a very tight low scoring game and unfortunately the lads lost out narrowily.
All the lads showed great skill and determination and the experience of travelling to these tournaments to play teams from other counties will stand to them in the future.
Well done to Tony and all his mentors for organising the trip to Tipp.
