A very special day in Sarsfields Hurling club on Saturday with the official opening of the Eddie O'Connell All Weather Complex. GAA President Mr. John Horan was loud in his praise of the All Weather Complex and said the upgraded complex will be of tremendous benefit to all the players in the years ahead.
Sarsfields Chairman Tadhg Murphy thanked all those who attended and said the club were delighted to name the new complex 'The Eddie O'Connell All Weather Complex'.
Eddie O'Connell & The O'Connell Group have been club sponsors for over thirty years and Eddie himself played a huge role in the construction of the original All Weather pitch in 2006. Colm O'Connell was on the podium expressing thanks on behave of his family.
Other dignitaries present on the morning were Cork's Lord Mayor John Sheehan, Cork GAA County Board Vice-Chairperson Marc Sheehan, Development Officer Pat Horgan and retired Bishop of Cork and Ross John Buckley who added a blessing to the facility. Liam Ryan of SuperValu another great supporter of our club was present as were local politicians Ger Keohane and Pádraig O'Sullivan. Ger Teahon operations Director of PST Sports who were contracted to deliver the artificial grass pitch and Mick Allen Vision Contracting Construction Director who over saw the development on behave of Sarsfields also graced the occasion.
