The Donal Buckley tournament took place on Saturday in Riverstown. A great afternoon of hurling was on show with all teams battling hard to capture the Donal Buckley Memorial Cup. The excitement and enthusiasm on show was wonderful even the catering staff brought their refreshments pitch side to enjoy the spectacle.
Four clubs participated Aghada, Ballincollig, Douglas and Sarfields each submitting 2 teams with the aggregate scoring to decide the standings.
Six games were played over the tournament with results only coming to light as the final whistles were blown. In the end our Sars heroes finishing top just ahead of Ballincollig who took the plate.
Donal Buckley played in the back line for Sarfields and score a point on that day in 1951 when Sars Senior won the County Final. His son John presented the Cup captain of Sars Jack Huggins and the plate to Ballincollig which Sarsfields and Cork minor Ben Graham presented the medals to all players.
